In light of Father’s Day and the need to address the rising challenges of crime and safety, Prince George’s County At-Large Council Member Mel Franklin is calling on 1,000 county fathers and father figures to make a renewed commitment to fatherhood in the community, to improve public safety and quality of life.

On June 11th, from 3pm-6pm at the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, Franklin calls on fathers of the county to come together for the “1000 Fathers Rally for Peace in Prince George’s County.”

Franklin’s plan for the event is to place a renewed emphasis on strengthening fatherhood in Prince George’s County in order to improve outcomes for its families. “I know time is short until this event, but we must act now to address our rising public safety and crime challenges, especially among our youth,” Franklin says.

The rally will feature resources such as job placement, expungement & legal assistance, physical and mental health services, small business support, social and family services, as well as an array of motivational speakers and entertainers. The event is free and Franklin is also enlisting the help of any organization, nonprofit, or business willing to provide free services to residents attending the 1000 Fathers Rally For Peace.

The veteran council leader is also granting an opportunity for small businesses and nonprofit organizations to present their products and services to potential customers. They will have exhibitor tables to share information with attendees about their business or nonprofit. Businesses and nonprofits cannot sell products or services live at the event, but they can collect customer information for future follow-up and provide information. Franklin states that this is also free, but space is limited.
